The 46th Retzlaff Family Reunion was held July 18, 1993, in Lexington, Texas, at the St. James Lutheran Parish Hall with 61 relatives present -- two from the Adolph Retzlaff, line, 13 from the Arnold Retzlaff, 40 from the Bernhard Retzlaff, 6 from the Augusta Retzlaff Grauke, and none from the Otilie Retzlaff Bade line.
Following a morning of greeting each arrival, catching upon what was happening in the families, and especially pouring over the family books and pictures of other years, a catered meal was enjoyed at noon, topped off with a wealth of delicious desserts brought by those attending.
Mary Beth Gibson presided over a business session in the early afternoon. It was found that the children of Paul Kleinschmidt from Tennessee came the longest distance, that Josie Scroggins at 86 was the oldest present, though there were 7 others age 80 or above; and Maggie Bates, who had turned 3 on July 3rd, was the youngest.
Donald spoke to the group about the family books, and stressed that they could be made more interesting if we could send him items about happenings in the families.
No weddings were noted, but several births. Devon Lynn Castleberry on March 8, 1993; Coby Ryan Benson on April 18, 1993; Justin Walker and Hunter Ryan Steinman, twins, on June 28, 1993; and Mark Judice on September 1, 1992.
We were shocked to learn of the untimely death of Clay Peterson, grandson of Harding Peterson, on July 15. He had just turned 20 years of age on July 14. He was working in a convenience store when a robber entered and robbed and killed him. A time of silent prayer was observed for the grieving family.
Arnold Kleinschmidt was thanked for again taking care of the cost of the building, and Lexington was asked to host the reunion in 1994. An offering was taken to pare expenses of the day.
