The Retzlaff Family Reunion was held in the American Legion Hall in Smithville, Texas July 16, 1967 with 105 relatives and 7 visitors present.
The family books and picture taking was the order of the morning, as usual. A tasty barbecue lunch was enjoyed at the noon hour, and a business session was held immediately following with Robert Vance presiding. Several letters were read from relatives who could not attend.
The following deaths were sadly noted: Charles Young; Max Levine; Augusta Eschenburg; John Olsen; and August Weiss. The Rev. Edward Haug led in a prayer of remembrance and thanksgiving for them.
The following weddings had taken place: Maurice Retzlaff to Cheryl Eland Buckner; Judy Vance to Wiley D. Dennis; James Marvin Cunningham, Jr. to Elizabeth Dworaczyk; and Jay Tonahill to Carolyn Steger. Several births were noted but were not gotten by the secretary.
It was announced that expenses amounted to $84.03. An offering was taken and $100.69 was given. Surplus barbecue was sold and a balance of $22.26 was on hand to apply on the 1978 reunion. It was noted that we had 50 lbs. of sliced barbecued beef and it more than fed 112 people.
The 1968 reunion was scheduled for the High School Cafetorium in Lexington with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kleinschmidt to be in charge. The meal was to be decided by Lexington relatives and others notified as usual.
Dr. A.A. Grusendorf of San Marcos, brother of Mrs. Ben Retzlaff, was a welcome visitor, and led in a prayer of thanksgiving for the joys of the day; and for a safe trip home for each one.
Mrs. Robert Vance
